Joe Little, Reporter and photographer KGTV

SDSU DigiMedia asked Joe Little about his career in television and what students can expect to learn from his video classes.

Why did you decide to become a TV news reporter?

Joe Little: In college I had decided to become a sports reporter. I wanted to become the next Dan Patrick at ESPN. I loved the fact that I could use my personality a little (and be paid for it). I liked the attention of being on TV (yeah, I said it, so what?). I didn’t switch to news until an awesome professor at Syracuse, Hub Brown, gave me some valuable advice. He said I could be a sports reporter but I should learn to do news first. It would make me a better writer, a better interviewer, and a better storyteller. He added that I would also have more opportunities for jobs. He was right. Most newsrooms these days have two full-time sports employees compared to a few dozen for news. Once I started focusing on news, I was hooked.
